Since I use Opera as my main browser, I've been using the keywords you can add for bookmarks as a makeshift tag field since it works kinda like tags. It would definitely be quite nice to have that one click bookmarking feature for example.

Combine the tag search thing in the URL with Opera 9.5's new page content search (which stores content from all pages you visit and can find the pages based on that later), and you'd have a very good way to get back those pages you want.

Who knows, maybe Firefox 3 will make the UI nicer otherwise too - so far it's been much "clunkier" than Opera's, which is one of the main reason I don't like Fx that much.

Re: Firefox 3 Bookmarks (My god, it’s full of stars…)

Yuck! Those can be found in the bookmark organizer inside the special "Unfiled Bookmarks" folder. You can see this folder in the screen shots of the bookmarks organizer window. Again, though typing some keywords, from the bookmark's URL, into the URL bar will bring up these bookmarks, along with items from your history, listing them with a star beside them to indicate they are bookmarks.

Re: Firefox 3 Bookmarks (My god, it’s full of stars…)

@ Nick: do you mean "tagged" bookmarks? In Firefox 3, ALL bookmarks are represented with a star icon, so I'm not sure what you mean by "starred bookmarks". Consider it a merging of the IE "favorites" and Mozilla "bookmarks". IE had the nice star icon but Mozilla had the more logical "bookmarks" name for referring to saved URLs. Combine them and we have bookmarks that flagged as such using a star icon.

If you are referring to tagged bookmarks, the article did mention, even shows a picture of accessing tagged bookmarks by opening up the master "Tags" folder in the bookmarks organizer and clicking on a named tag icon. So, you don't need to use a smart bookmarks folder to get at them. Of course the easiest way to access tagged bookmarks is to just type the tag name(s) into the URL bar. When you do, you instantly realize why it has been dubbed the "Awesome Bar", all the bookmarks show up with little tag or star icons. Very intuitive, maybe even natural.

Re: Firefox 3 Bookmarks (My god, it’s full of stars…)

They did a nice thing for people with sight problems with the zoom a la Opera but then they blow it totally by having the location bar drop down menu fonts be extra thin.
Brilliant, make it even harder to see than before.

And while we are at it. Why is it that you cannot use the CTLR+ to make fonts bigger when you open the Bookmarks in a separate window?

People who cant see can always make fonts bigger in the browser but cant make them bigger in the Bookmarks Manager. No continuity of thought. IF you cant see well in one, your eyesight is still gonna be bad in the other.

Much easier to add bookmarks though.

Re: Firefox 3 Bookmarks (My god, it’s full of stars…)

Wow.
I didn't read the whole thing but I hope it makes exporting and backing up bookmarks easier as well.
